Enforced socializing at Mobile Life :-)

The weekly Wednesday coffee, October 27th, in the centre. Jarmo Laaksolahti is giving a farewell and good luck speach to Helena Mentis. Helena has spent the last 12 months as an ERCIM postdoctoral fellow in the centre. She has contributed to the Supple project as well as put in work in the General Interaction Models group. Good Luck on your future work and at Microsoft research, Cambridge, Helena.

Researchers working in the Mobile Life Centre are attracted from various research areas such as computer and systems sciences, sociology, design, media studies and media technology.

The inter-disciplinary research collaboration is performed within computer supported collaborative work, human computer interaction and ubiquitous computing.

Elena did her degree (BEng and MEng) in Telecommunication Engineering in Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Sevilla. She came to Stockholm to do an erasmus in 2008 and stayed longer to do a master in Interactive Systems Engineering, at KTH.

She came to Mobile Life in 2010 to do her master thesis, supervised by Annika Waern. During this time, she was also part time employed in Mobile Life, participating in the DanceCrew project  in collaboration with Movinto FUN, funded by VINNOVA. She helped in designing and evaluating full body interaction games for the BodyBug (now Oriboo) mobile game platform, by Jin Moen (Movinto FUN).

From Mars 2011, Elena participated in the LIREC project. As a MEng in Telecommunication Engineering, major in control and autonomous systems, it was a great opportunity to change her perception of these autonomous systems and deal with robots from the social and interactive perspective.

Now Elena is an external Ph.D. student at SICS. Her research revolves around understanding and designing for full body interaction activities and experiences, mediated, supported, or triggered by the use of technology.

Her combined background both in Telecommunication Engineering and in Interactive Systems Engineering grants her the possibility to participate in integrated design processes balancing user-driven and technology-driven approaches. Elena's interest lies in designing for playful and enjoyable experiences that involves the moving body.
